Elvis Is Leaving The Building

On January 8th, 2011 Elvis Aaron Presley would have turned 76 years old. His untimely death in 1977 seemed a premature bookend to a life and career that was followed by fans worldwide starting in 1954 with his first hit, “That’s All Right”. His early raucous recordings with then band mates, guitarist Winfield Moore and upright bass player Bill Black, burst from the studio, spilling out over the airwaves, forever changing the color, tone and feel of a musical generation. Not only would his music during the 50′s and 60′s take control of radio and TV broadcasts, but his physical presence and style would challenge modern day thoughts on fashion, social concepts and individual expression. In short, he entertained a nation, one generation at a time.

Elvis’ legacy as a musician, actor and veteran are well documented. In fact, it’s hard not to venture out into the world even today, thirty-four years after his death, and not see or hear a remembrance of the late and great Presley. His songs have been covered hundreds of times by artists in all musical categories from heavy metal to easy listening and his likeness has been used on tens-of-thousands of products. All in an effort to bring the fan closer to the legend. It shouldn’t come as a surprise than that one of the most well-done, recent tributes to Elvis comes from ACME Studios.

ACME Studios has been challenging the look and demeanor of the bland and drab business world by producing eye-catching, one-of-a-kind, artist driven pens and matching business card cases for years now. The writing tools of ACME Studios are created to commemorate the artistic achievements of the 20th century’s greatest contemporary artists, architects and designers and the Elvis Presley Americana Pen is a natural fit for this ambitious endeavor. But, like all good things that must end, Elvis Presley “The Comeback”, is a Limited Edition design that will only be available a short time longer as will the entire Elvis Americana Series of four. After it is sold out no more in that design will ever be made. Elvis is leaving the building.

The good news: These pens are still available. So take a look and enjoy the pop images that truly capture Elvis in the highlights of his life. And what might be next for ACME and their vision to honor the 20th century’s greatest contemporary artists? I hear murmurings about a well known quartet from Liverpool. Can’t wait to see.
