In an article aimed at people new to fountain pens you use specialist terms without explaining what they are: "boutique ink"; "Levenger inks" etc. I'm guessing that boutique ink is some sort of shop ink.

And do you want to be more specific with the "dish soap" comment? Do you mean soap you wash dishes with or soap you keep in a dish?

Hello,

I am hoping you can help me in my quest to find out more information on a Rotring ball point pen. I have contacted the company in Germany but all they could tell me was that yes, one of the employees remembers that particular pen being made by them back in 1980, but they could not bive me a name or a model number.. they told me no info is available. I have added several pictures of the pen in the hope that you might shed some light on it.

Regards

Hi,
Appreciate your blog. Hope to read more. A fairly new user of fountain pens (can afford only inexpensive ones now, like the Chinese Pilots, which I like).
As to inks, I have been using Private Reserve bottles; Velvet Black & Chocolate. Any comment and/or suggestion for other inks?
For paper, I use ordinary ink jet paper and a good journal. Can you recommend any journals that have paper well suited to the fountain pen for my “memoirs’?
Many thanks for any help ypu can give or any reference material.

I am an extremely senior with an active background as a lawyer specializing in Copyright, Intellectual property and artists’ rights; in addition, I am an active professional fine arts photographer with a currebt Retrospective Photo show running until November 1, 2012 at NYU’s Kimmel Galleries, NYC.
I have been experimenting with handwritten annotations on my photographs. Do you have any suggestions on appropriate nibs and inks for that purpose?
Many thanks for any information you can give me.
Sincerely,
Len Speier

Well, for starters, I am a pen junkie. Not the cheap ones, but the expensive ones. One of my favorites is a $600 fountain pen. I have carried my pens with me wherever O go. Of course, not all at one time. I have NEVER EVER LOST my pens. I have carried them in pockets, briefcases, canvas bags, my hand. I have carried them clipped to books and journals. I also have nice leather zip pen pouches that fit comfortably in my hand. sometimes I carry them in an eagle creek pouch that I can carry on a strap on my neck.
I cannot fathom your type of pen loss. it amazes me.

This is a good intro to nibs and fountains. I would like to see more info on the other components of the pen. Like the sections, feeder, so on.
